Comfort At Last

I've been getting a lot of questions recently about my room, and whether or not I'll be doing a room tour. Honestly, I do have to say that it is the hardest thing for me to do a room tour! There are still so many changes and alterations that I haven't gotten around to and watching other people do tours of their perfectly furnished, lovely, exquisite and organized pads is very discouraging. I'm sure you have that feeling. I always feel as if my room isn't enough - that there's something else I need to add. But -- I didn't want to stall forever so I kind of cave in and decided to do a pre-view.

So without further ado -- let's begin!

Here we are! This is the view that you get after directly walking through the door. The room's vibe is supposed to be airy and fresh -- and after it's been organized and cleaned, that's just what I feel. Being a true California girl, I opted for a nautical/beach theme. Keep in mind the area is small so I have to work with the space to the best of my ability.  Ginger the dog sitting by my reading nook. This chair is from Ikea and I absolutely adore sitting in this corner with a good book. Reading endlessly is one of my favorite pastimes.

I wish I could change the color of my walls. Currently they are painted two of my favorite colors - a creamy, inviting yellow and a pastel yellow. I love the colors however I feel like they kind of clash with the room's intended vibe. I wish I could change the purple wall to an airy blue.
I don't have a beach view because let's face it home prices right along the coast is pricey! Therefore I added a window decal of it, instead. I also chose three shadow box picture frames and added a few snapshots of beaches that I love. I chose some sand and sea shells to add into the frames, to give a whimsical look.
This is pretty cluttered for the time being -- and I am definitely trying to make some improvements. As of toady, I have rearranged the bookshelf and I'll be posting pictures of that soon. However, this is the whole wall without any alterations, as this was done almost two weeks ago.

All the furniture is white as I feel it's a lot more sleek and inviting than black. I decided to go for all of the decorations in a blue color, which definitely screams ocean.

The vanity! I need to organize this -- but since I've been getting requests, this is it! I love the jewelry holder which is from Urban Outfitters. I also opted to display my makeup brushes and hair bands because they add that "glamorous" touch.

I hope you all enjoyed!

Joyce

You don't have to break the bank to get a radiant eye look - Cargo Essential Eye

Hey Everyone,
I wanted to share with you one of my newest finds. Recently, while rummaging around Sephora, I came across a product that I am completely spellbound by, and I have to share with you. You know that section of Sephora located right in front of the cashier, that marketing ploy that gets us girls each and every time. Okay, maybe not you, but especially me. Waiting in a treacherous line can really get your shopping juices flowing, and I happen to always purchase one of those inexpensive miniature knick knacks from that kiosk.
What was it this time? Cargo has recently launched a product called their "Essential Palette" filled with four beautiful and extremely wearable natural colors. As most neutral palettes, it showcases a browbone, lid, crease and outer corner color that are so subtle and beautiful. Best part about this palette? It's only eight dollars. This means, that not only is a great quality and absolutely wearable, it's also affordable.
You don't have to break the bank to get a radiant eye look.

The only con to this product? If you can leave aside the fact that it's small - no bigger than an Amex or a giftcard - the only other con would be that it is not available at Sephora.com, the online store. Sephora has never sold Cargo products on the site, therefore you'll have to get down to your nearest one to pick this product up. My take? It's an absolute wonder, and it's a great addition to my collection. If you're on the hunt for four beautiful shadows at only $2.00 each, I would highly recommend.
The outer packaging. Keep in mind that this is relatively small. This would be a great product to throw in a purse or a makeup bag.

The shadows are lovely. Your basic browbone, lid, crease and outer corner color

A small instructional picture on how to apply shades. Instead of this, it would have been nice to add a mirror. However, if you carry a compact on the go - then that won't be of a hassle.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Who knows? Maybe you'll stop by Sephora in the near future...

There ain't no rest for the weary...

I am physically and mentally exhausted.
It's like 10:00 right now, which is around the time I usually start brushing my teeth and take a shower... basically what normal people do before hopping into bed and snoozing off.
For some reason, I am so weary that I cannot even sleep. I'm so tired that it's not even possible for my eyes to stay shut. Now, that probably doesn't make any sense to you...so I'm not even gonna try to explain myself. Yawns*
The worst thing to probably do, is go on the computer. I know it stimulates your brain, which makes it do more work, which makes you not fall asleep faster. Got it. But, being crazy and stubborn I've found my way to the wonderful world of Blogger anyways (:

So I uploaded two videos this week. I'm proud of myself that I actually did!
If you haven't seen them already....do me a favor and clickety? Pwease?

I tried to film a getting ready for school video today. And that. That...was a fail. If only you could of seen my acts of clumsiness, you would understand!

I have a lot on my mind. If I had more time, I would vent through this blog. Maybe tomorrow I'll go on a long schpeel of why I've just been a bit down lately.

Sorry that you had to sit through my complaints!

With much love,
Joyce

Hollywood Birthday Glamour

This past weekend, I celebrated my birthday. Along with looking forward to another year added on to your age (or for those that look at the glass half empty, a year closer to death) you get to look forward to a party, when the anniversary of your birth rolls around. I love parties. I love the whole excitement of it all, and creating memories that will last forever. For my fourteenth, I really wanted to do something special. I feel like fourteen is a bit of an eh age. There isn't a significant change that occurs - at ten I reached double digits, at thirteen I was a teenager....when I'm sixteen I'll get my permit (okay I'm Asian, so maybe not). To make up or that lack of "oomph" to this year's age, I wanted to have an extravagant birthday party.

Planning is always time consuming, but in the end when you realize that you will have a time in your life that you'll never forget, and all your hard work paid off, it is definitely worth it. So now...you probably wonder, what did you do? I decided to have a glamorous Hollywood bash, or as my friends have now dubbed it "a so very LA outing". Living in Los Angeles my whole life, I've been in and out of Hollywood all the time. Eight of my closest friends and I, definitely wanted to arrive in style, so we rented a limousine to take us to the boulevard. I've never had my own limo before, so I was definitely aww struck.

Of course, we had our share of silliness as we drank our Sprites and Dr. Pepper's on our adventure.

 Embracing our mustaches!

 Non-alcoholic, don't freak the freak out :)
In the limo, I also opened birthday presents and I was so "surprised" when my friend's all got me gift cards! I guess they know me pretty well, considering the fan of Sephora and Forever 21 cards shown in the picture below!

We snapped pictures and sipped on our sodas, and at last we finally arrived in Hollywood. Clouds were forming in the sky, and unlike the "typical" SoCal weather, I knew that rain was scheduled in the forecast. I hate the rain. I have a love-hate relationship with it. I'm not the type of person that cries when my makeup gets runny or when my hair gets a bit poofed. I just hate the uncomfortable, tired feeling that the the wet, cold air brings along. For my birthday, I made it my mission to make sure that I wouldn't let the weather bring me down.

Hollywood was jammed packed with cars. Kobe Bryant happened to appear the same day, so the roads were blocked off for him. It was hilarious when dozens of men and women stared at us, as our limousine stretched across Hollywood Blvd. They were probably expecting Kobe. The windows were tinted and they couldn't see us inside, but we felt extremely self conscious as they all waved and shouted.

We made our way through the various stores Hollywood & Highland has to offer. I had originally arranged to spend seven hours at the mall - but I soon found out that rescheduling to five was a great call. Instead of hitting Louis Vuitton, Fossil and all the "expensive" stores, we all wanted to do some "practical" shopping.

First store: American Apparel
American Apparel has always been my lust store. The prices aren't too expensive, but when you are on a tight teenage budget, the five items you want to get do add up. I ended up getting a dark pink crop top for $16.00. The quality and standard of American Apparel sets a bar for all other companies. You certainly get what you pay for.

Onward! We then moved onto Sephora. Good thing by this point, I had replaced my ankle boot heels to a pair of comfy and snug flats! Shop in style, but also consider comfort! I was a bit surprised that the gals and guys at Sephora weren't too customer friendly. They didn't really acknowledge our presence and the store wasn't packed at all, but they ignored my friends and I and only doted on the other customers. Regardless, I did end up getting the items that I wanted, and I love Sephora's customer service at other stores, so I have no hard feelings.
What I purchased:
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Sand - $42
Benefit To Go Set - $10 (BARGAIN!)
Benefit Boing Concealer - $18

We then moved onto one of my favorite guilty pleasures - Forever 21. The thing about XXI is that it's an extremely inexpensive place - but you can drop $300 like nothing! Picking up 18 things and bringing them to the dressing room, I did a quick barcode scan on my phone and the total was already a whopping $490 bucks. Needless to say, I didn't get everything I had intended, but I did pick up a few key Spring wardrobe must haves.

In the dressing room...

One of the funniest moments of the day involved the dressing rooms. My friend Emma and I happened to be put side by side, and as we were in our individual stalls we were looking at the mirror and remarking about our outfits.
Me: "This dress is a bit too long, I'm not exactly sure if I like it"
Emma: "Eh, this dress is kind of blah. Let me here your opinion"
We both walk out and in astonishment we realize we are both wearing the same flowy white lace dress. Being petite girls, the dress didn't hit us well and even though it was beautiful, we had to pass it up.
Carrying our Forever 21 goodies as we head off in search for some excitement.
It remained clear but chilly for a good portion of the day. However, since I've never had a rain free birthday EVER in my life, the clouds did roll over and despite not being invited, my good 'ol friend Rain ended up coming.

The next stores we hit were H&M and MAC.
M.A.C. was quite an experience. I've had times where the people who worked there were out right rude. The store does have a reputation for treating it's younger clients with less respect than their older ones. I was expecting that Hollywood wasn't going to have the nicest employees. I was blown away with the customer service. The staff was very warm and demonstrated great worth ethic. Instead of getting Hue lipstick, I was recommended to get Creme Cup and I am happy with my decision. I also picked up an MSF natural.

Time rolled around, and we hit a list of other stores before snapping some pictures in front of the famous Hollywood sign. It was awkward feeling like a tourist as we strutted around.

The best part about being in a place full of people is that there is always someone who can hold the camera for you when you need a group shot! :)

If you ever happen to be at the Hollywood&Highland Center I really suggest checking out Dlush, a wonderful beverage bar. They serve coffees, smoothies and other tasty treats! We all ended up ordering the Ying Yang, a delicious blend of white chocolate and dark chocolate topped with marshmallows.
We hit other stores as well like Victora's Secret, Hot Topic and Express and finally ended up spending all our money and needed to take a rest. In my case, I didn't run out of bills...but more like strength! I was exhausted from battling the rain (trying to keep an umbrella up, is a challenge when it's windy!) and walking around all day lugging bagfuls of goodies. It certainly was fun! We ended up sitting around for an hour, gossiping while enjoying our Dlush drinks.

Venice Beach - Home of the Crazies (Including Me)

Los Angeles has been getting some pretty crazy weather lately -either you have the sky blue iconic California sky - or you're trapped in a dark and gloomy rain storm. That's today.
My sixth period class happens to be my most dreaded class. Algebra. Instead of paying attention to monomials and functions my mind wandered off to a more pleasant setting. Regardless that I was gazing out window at giant droplets of cold, wet rain the only thing I was thinking about was Venice Beach, a place I love.
I can picture it now - the idyllic palm trees swaying to the chaotic yet wonderful sounds of music from all walks of life, the street performers surrounded by crowds of admiring bystanders, the memorable man that walks around with a Speedo clad with the American emblem, the smell of the ocean breeze inter tangled with the smells of vendors and restaurants that occupy The Strip. In all honesty, I used to be terrified of Venice. To the people who watch the landmark from their televisions, it's probably a whole different place then what you think you've seen. It's upbeat, funky and urban and place that you have to experience to know the true spirit.
Despite all the fake thing's Venice has to offer - like the boardless boardwalk lined with fake handbags and glasses - it's the realest place I know of. You have all walks of life - the rich and the poor- all walking side by side. Those with money, walk around with their LV's and Pradas while the homeless are performing acts in exchange for money. Los Angeles is a pretty mixed place, but the heart of Venice is where I can see that combination most apparent.
I've been going to Venice Beach my whole life. I learned to ride a bike, pedaling down Hermosa, Venice and Santa Monica.
I've spent numerous hours watching my guy friends learning to ride their skateboards at the beachside course. Before I turned Veggie, I used to eat hot dogs and hamburgers with my family there all the time. My friends and I hang out at the beach whenever we have spare time. I can't even begin to explain how many wonderful memories I have due to this place I call home.
As my friend's like to call it - Venice Beach is the home of the crazies. And I think that the reason I love it so much is because I'm one of them. I'm a crazy. Maybe I'm not homeless, or rich, or a magician, or prancing around in a Speedo with my boombox - but in a way I do have my own uniqueness to me.
I'm a free spirit. I'm pretty much a happy-go-lucky teenager, living my life. I almost always have a smile on my face - okay, maybe not the days my hormones kick in and I PMS says hello. But generally, I am! Standing at a mere 5"1 and weighing in 84 pounds doesn't make me intimidated. Instead I'm the bubbliest I can be, the loudest person you'll probably ever meet.
I invite you along my journey of trial and error. I'm not perfect, nor will I ever be! Why be perfect? Then there is no point in living. We live to learn and love. If we are perfect, than there is no learning. And if there is no learning, their is no living or loving. And what would the world be without that?!?
This isn't going to be your typical beauty blog - heck I haven't even mentioned hair or makeup or clothes, yet. I learn by the experiences around me, and I take in each of those moments and use it for inspiration. My muse is everywhere, not a place or person there to guide me. So follow me (literally!) through my teen days (and maybe my adult years too) of living, learning and loving.
So I sit here now, seven hours after math class, writing to you all - not just about Venice beach (a place I love), or the fact that I'm crazy (not clinically...or maybe) but also asking you to take part in the 3 L's.
Sincerely yours,
Joyce <3

The days of my life, I'll never forget.

The famous Patriotic Speedo man. Looking good stud.

My pride and joy, Ginger Larou and I on Venice
Police cars, palm trees and the blue sky are all required pieces of the Venice experience
Just when you were starting to think I might be sane.
My best friend. To be crazy or not to be?
